I was commissioned to draw a section through the entrance lobby of this former townhouse, once the home of Sir William Burrell. The Terrace was designed by Alexander ‘Greek’ Thomson in 1867.
Apart from the Ionic columns, shown in the drawing, the building’s exterior lacks many of Thomson’s motifs possibly because it was one of his last works, or that he was restrained from decoration by the builder. The interior is beautifully panelled and retains a sense of Victorian grandeur.
